What are the benefits of a local animal shelter?

Community Benefits
Animal Control: The current animal control officer is responsible for over 300 square miles of service area. With the addition of AVHS, the City would fund an animal control officer devoted to Auburn. This would result in improved response and action for animal related problems.
Community Center: Our goal is to make this more than "just the pound". AVHS will be a pet community center where not only animals are sheltered, but pet educational events are held, questions can be answered, and advancements in animal care can be encouraged within the community.
Licensing: Current licensing fees are deposited in the King County general fund. With the formation of AVHS, 100% of all pets licensed within Auburn will go to support the shelter - Auburn's shelter!
Regional Comradery: While AVHS will support pets and people in Auburn, that doesn't mean we turn a cold shoulder to our neighboring colleagues. We are all in this together, caring for pets in need. It is an AVHS goal to foster a network of regional communication and collaboration among neighboring shelters, rescue groups and foster homes. We need to work together in the best interest of the pet.
