Chance’s Story

It all started when…

We adopted Chance from AVHS a year ago in March. He was for my Mom and we were hoping to train him to be a heating dog for my Mom. When we got him he would bite if you tried to pick him up and growled and snapped for lots of things. My Mom and I just kept teaching and training , and he is so smart he started to figure out he didn’t need to snap and growl so much.

Unfortunately we lost my Mom only 5 months after getting Chance. He gave her so much pleasure and every day she had a funny story to tell about him. Of course he then became our dog. We have two grandsons five and three that love dogs and so VERY carefully we introduced them to Chance.

We were told from the shelter he should not be around children . He was a rock star with them! They were calm and let him come to them and he quickly learned they would throw the ball and play tug with him. Also we live on a 50 foot sailboat and he took to that quickly. He watches me stow and tie the few things required  to go sailing and sits by his life jacket. We put both boys and Chance on a line from bow to stern so they have freedom in the deck and are safe and they will play there for hours!

He reminds us to never give up and has lived up to his name ! We are so glad we “ took a Chance on him!” Thanks Vicky Stover
