It all started when…

Hi, my new name is Hippo! I was a 3-month old blind puppy when I was found as a stray in Auburn. Auburn Valley Humane Society (AVHS) found the perfect family for me. Here is a message from my new family:

Her new name is Hippo, she has already learned it 100%. Her first night home I accidentally fell asleep with her in our bed; she had no accidents and has spent every night Since as my little spoon.

Our deaf/blind dog is her very best friend and has been helping her learn good dog play skills. She is doing really well on our hikes and is really good at following and staying on track( I drag my feet more than I would normally to make sound for her to follow). She wears a drag leash just in case we have to emergency retrieve her- but we haven’t needed it so far. She does hate water for now and is cautious and slow getting past puddles but getting more confidence everyday and I hope that Our other kids, (both love water/swimming) can encourage her in the warmer weather. We have been doing as many socializing trips to stores as we can manage and she gets leash practice and people practice- she is doing Very well with both. She seems to have a small amount of vision, at least shadows; she can track us walking through a well lit room, but runs into walls still.

We have gotten her a set of kids snow goggles to practice/ desensitize her to for when she is full grown and we can buy her some RexSpecs (look them up they are awesome just expensive for something that could potentially be destroyed real quick).

She is such a joy, I’m really glad I got to adopt her, such a perfect new family member.

My adoption experience was awesome and everyone there was real friendly. You all are doing wonderful, worthwhile work.
