The program benefits the reader as well as the cats. These visits provide cats in our care with some time to socialize in a relaxing, comfortable environment while the students get in some reading practice. Reading aloud can be a great confidence booster, and the cats don’t mind at all if you make a mistake!
A study conducted by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine showed that reading to a pet improved reading fluency as 30% and 75% of parents reported their children to read aloud more often and with greater confidence.
