The People Helping People awards encompass a minimum of fourteen $15,000 Community Benefit Awards.

BECU members may nominate any nonprofit organization they support with their time, talents or money that meets the following criteria:
Organizations must be currently active and registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit
Organizations must have a direct impact in BECU's service areas:

The organization’s work must be focused in one of the seven giving areas:
Advancing Education (Pre-K through College)
Arts and Culture
Creating Economic Opportunity
Preserving Health and Promoting Wellness
Preserving or Restoring the Environment
Providing for Basic Human Need
Strengthening Local Communities

AVHS is more than an animal shelter, we are a vital community resource.
AVHS helps more people in the community than animals.
AVHS is responsible for and has facilitate over 10,000 best friend relationships in the past 7 years
AVHS runs a thrift store to recycle donated goods and products and prevents those items from ending up in the landfill
AVHS thrift store also assists the community by providing needed items at a valued price.
Public medical fund – assist public animals with unaffordable medical needs
Humane Education/Girl Scout badge program - teaching the children of world the importance of kindness and compassion
Shelter Buddy reading program – supporting an opportunity for children to read
Senior Pet Pantry - providing food to pets of seniors and low income residents of the community
Seniors for Seniors – providing pets and support to seniors
Pet Therapy - Pets visiting patients in assisted living
SPOT - Low cost Spay/Neuter opportunity
Pets without me – facilitation and care for pets of those who have become permanently incapacitated or have passed
Pets in Crisis –care of pets whose owners are hospitalized
Pets of Domestic Violence- care of pets whose owners are residents of a Domestic Violence program
